The 4-hour drive takes you through the beauty of the Greek countryside, offering changing landscapes and several opportunities to stop for photos. Along the way, you will visit the monument of Leonidas of Sparta at Thermopylae — an iconic symbol honoring one of antiquity’s most legendary battles.
Upon arrival in Kalabaka, you will ascend to the top of the elevated rocks to visit two of the remarkable monasteries built into the cliffs of Meteora. This unique monastic complex dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks climbed the steep sandstone formations to build places of worship away from the world. Today, only 7 of the original 30 monasteries are active — all declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
After exploring the monasteries and enjoying the panoramic views, you will return to Kalabaka for an authentic Greek lunch. From there, you will begin your return journey to Athens with a final stop in Kamena Vourla — a charming seaside town — before your driver drops you off at your residence.
